Some of the world’s top para-cyclists will be riding through East Riding towns and villages as Beverley hosts the start of the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International.

On Saturday, 21 September around 60 athletes from every Paralympic road racing classification will be taking part in the race, which also has start points in Tadcaster and Wetherby before finishing in Harrogate.

This will be the first time the Yorkshire 2019 Para-Cycling International will take place alongside the UCI Road World Championships, where each race will finish in Harrogate.

In Beverley, athletes will be riding either tandems, which involves a visually-impaired rider with a sighted pilot on the front, or bicycles which have been adapted for riders with physical impairments.

They will leave Beverley’s Saturday Market and go through Bishop Burton, Market Weighton, Holme on Spalding Moor, Foggathorpe and Bubwith before heading into North Yorkshire and the Harrogate finish line.

Parade Cycle Ride

Registration has now closed. Limited numbers of registrations available on the day. Visit the orange ‘Better By Bike’ gazebo at Market Cross between 9am and 10am.

One of the events will be a parade cycle ride where people of all ages and abilities will have the chance to ride part of the actual route before stopping on the Westwood to cheer the athletes on their way.

This is not a lead ride, but a group parade on closed roads. You can choose to finish at two spectator points along York Road, where you are encouraged to watch the Para athletes as they race past your location.

You can then make your own way back into Beverley for the free family bike festival and entertainment. (Please be aware there will be no road closure for the return journey into Beverley)

Please note once the Para athlete’s race has passed the road closure will be lifted.
